It was a dream start for new Aston Villa manager Dean Smith on Saturday, picking up three points against Swansea in front of a home crowd.
It was The Villans’ first win in over a month, and only their second win in 12 matches in all competitions. It was hard fought, but Tammy Abraham’s early goal was enough to seal the victory for Smith.
The former Brentford boss will now want to build on that performance from his team, and what will please him most is some of the displays from his players.
Former Hibs midfielder John McGinn was one of the standout players for The Villans at the weekend, not only putting in a tireless performance in defence, but also lay the foundation for any attack by The Lions. His tackle and interception count was impressive, as was his overall performance.
Smith will need the 13-cap Scotland international’s high-energy dominant performance tonight as his side travel east to face an impressive Norwich City. Daniel Farke’s men looked very strong against Nottingham Forest at the weekend, registering 12 more shots and almost 100 more passes than their opponents. Smith will need McGinn at his best to curtail The Canaries’ rhythm in the midfield.
Aston Villa currently sit in 13th place in the season after a fairly lame start to the season. What will please fans and players alike at Villa Park is that they are only three points behind sixth place Norwich going into tonight’s game. A win tonight would guarantee Villa climb above The Canaries in the table, although it remains unclear where they would be in the table.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
