Aston Villa have been nothing short of dominant in recent times in the Championship, which has now got fans believing that this could finally be their year.
The Villans currently find themselves in the promotion places after an inspired run of form, but it won’t be easy from here on in with Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol City and Leeds United still to come.
However, one thing that has been worrying fans in recent times has been the club’s situation at the heart of the defence, with Kortney Hause and Tyrone Mings set to return to their parent clubs in the summer.
Therefore, Dean Smith surely must have a number of defensive players in his sights.
Interestingly, it appears as if the Villans already have their eye on a possible summer swoop, as according to Wales Online (via Birmingham Live), Aston Villa could make a move for Mike van der Hoorn, whose contract is set to expire at the Liberty Stadium in the summer.
Mike van der Hoorn has been hugely impressive in the Championship this season as he continues to ensure defensive solidity at the heart of the defence. He’s exactly the type of defender that Aston Villa need as he can provide the strength, tackling and aerial ability that could go missing with Mings leaving.
James Chester has struggled with an injury for large parts of the current campaign but he’ll inevitably slot right into the side whenever he returns as one of the best defenders in the Championship on his day.
So, he could find himself reaching new heights if he’s partnered with Mike van der Hoorn next season as the Dutchman very rarely lets the opposition past and he’s a very reliable defender. Tommy Elphick let the Wales international down at times but he wouldn’t have to worry about anything with Van der Hoorn around.
Aston Villa fans, do you think Van der Hoorn could be the perfect partner for James Chester? Join the discussion by commenting down below!
