It is a fact that Liverpool fans may need to face one day, that current manager Jürgen Klopp may leave the club.
The manager’s success with Liverpool- although trophyless so far- will cause some of Europe’s biggest clubs to turn their heads. Whilst some will argue that there are very few teams bigger than Europe, the German has been linked to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the past.
If Los Blancos were to come calling, Liverpool may be fairly powerless in preventing him from moving to the Santiago Bernabéu. If this does occur, the club should have a contingency plan with regards to the German’s successor, and they should look no further to the next county in Huddersfield’s David Wagner.
Former United States striker Wagner was second in command under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, and has therefore been heavily influenced by the Liverpool boss. Both managers have a high pressing, energetic style of play, and this would be a perfect transition and replacement. Liverpool fans would not want their team to change stylistically after Klopp, after years of being in the wilderness before the German’s arrival- Wagner provides that luxury.
Wagner has done a brilliant job with Huddersfield, not only taking them to the Premier League, but securing survival in his first season with a very meagre budget. With the resources and facilities that he would have at Liverpool, his potential is unknown.
Admittedly, Huddersfield are struggling this season, and it seems unlikely that The Terriers will avoid relegation. If the club do go down, Wagner may be out the door, and many clubs in England will be interested in recruiting him. Although the Huddersfield to Liverpool move will not happen straight away, another successful spell at a slightly better Premier League club could establish the former Mainz player as one of the most in-demand managers around, and that is when Liverpool should make their move.Like what the TT have on offer?
