Liverpool have had a number of injury scares in the past week. James Milner, Mo Salah and Sadio Mané are all possible absentees, and this must be giving manager Jürgen Klopp quite a headache.
To make matters worse, midfielder Naby Keïta may have joined that growing list while on international duty with Guinea, after limping off the pitch.
The midfielder has not endured the greatest start to his time an Anfield after joining from RB Leipzig in the summer, which has seen him start on the bench in recent weeks for The Reds. But with so many injuries at the moment, Klopp may have needed him for this weekend’s fixture against Huddersfield.
However, this does give the German an opportunity to introduce another new summer signing to Premier League football, and that is Fabinho. The defensive midfielder signed for The Reds from Monaco for a fee of £43.7m, but injury has prevented him from appearing so far this season.
The Brazilian (valued at £40.5m on Transfermarkt.co.uk) has had a taste of Champions League and League Cup football so far this season, but has not been called upon for the Premier League. This weekend should surely be his chance.
While he is a slightly different player to Keïta; one who is more defensively minded rather than a box to box man, he can still be hugely impactful for The Reds.
Liverpool currently sit in third place in the Premier League, level on points with Chelsea and leaders Man City. While they may be ravaged by injuries, they cannot afford to let their pressure on the top of the table drop.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
