Chelsea host Belarusian outfit FC BATE in the Europa League this evening, and are heavy favourites to get the win.
Although the visitors are first in the Belarusian Premier League, Maurizio Sarri’s men still are expected to comfortably win. This gives the Italian the chance to rotate his squad, not only with one eye on the club’s trip to Burnley at the weekend, but to keep the less frequently played players keen.
One of the players that Sarri should look to play is 22-year-old Ruben Loftus-Cheek. After a fairly impressive World Cup, a lot of people expected the midfielder to play a prominent part in Chelsea’s season. However, he just hasn’t seemed to click with the new manager.
Loftus-Cheek has been limited to just two Premier League appearances so far this season, both from the bench, and only one start, in the Europa League. That is why it seems likely that the midfielder will get another opportunity to impress tonight- but he must take this chance.
These appearances may be few and far between this season for the player, and he needs to take the opportunity with both hands to become part of Sarri’s plans for the upcoming months. A lot of fans in England know the player’s quality, but it is down to him to show it before Sarri.
The hardest thing for him is that the standard of opposition makes it hard to truly prove that he would be a success in the Premier League for The Blues. But Loftus-Cheek can only work with what he’s given, and has to make his stamp tonight if he starts.
