Barnsley will be desperate to secure automatic promotion to the Championship this season, but it looks as if they may have to settle for a play-off place at this moment in time.
The Tykes have certainly impressed at times in the current campaign, but injuries and a recent January transfer window departure has made life much harder for Daniel Stendel.
Indeed, the League One side desperately need to make transfer moves this month if they are to stand any chance of meeting their aims in the current campaign.
Therefore, with their promotion hopes hanging in the balance, the January transfer window could hold the key.
Sadly, Barnsley had to wave goodbye to Brad Potts recently as he secured a permanent move to Championship side Preston North End for £1.5 million.
Of course, the midfielder played a huge part in the first half of the season for the Tykes, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists, so his departure will come as a huge blow.
Although, an Aston Villa January sale would gift Barnsley the perfect replacement for Potts, in the form of promising midfielder Callum O’Hare.
The 20-year-old is a very talented player who has a bright future in the game, but he just has only enjoyed one first-team appearance in the current campaign. He has three goals to his name in the Premier League 2 this season and also possesses the ability to provide assists, so he is a very similar player to Potts.
Indeed, he could definitely slot right into the middle of midfield for Barnsley and has all the ingredients to become a star in League One this season, with goals and assists being ever-present in his game.
