Liverpool fans will still be struggling to deal with the fact that their side failed to secure the bragging rights in the Merseyside derby recently, as well as letting Pep Guardiola’s side take the upper-hand in the race for the Premier League title.
Although, the Reds appear to already have their eyes on strengthening in the summer transfer window, as according to Calciomercato (via Metro), Liverpool are interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach’s Matthias Ginter.
Indeed, the Reds haven’t been able to ensure defensive solidity at all times this season and Virgil Van Dijk is still yet to find his perfect defensive partner, so perhaps Ginter could be the man.
Liverpool have enjoyed some success with Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip at the back but the latter just isn’t the world-class defender that fans want to see alongside the Dutchman.
Indeed, one player who Liverpool may look to get rid of in the summer transfer window is Dejan Lovren, as the Croatian has made a number of mistakes this season and is a very unreliable figure.
Matthias Ginter would be the perfect replacement for Lovren as he could automatically slot right into the starting lineup alongside Van Dijk, which would make the Reds’ bench even strong as Matip would act as back-up. He would make up for all of Lovren’s weaknesses, with mistakes rarely made and defensive solidity always ensured.
Liverpool have conceded the least amount of goals in the Premier League up until this point in the current campaign, so adding Ginter to their ranks could make the Reds’ defence untouchable, as he’s a world-class defender who still has his best years ahead of him. His tackling, strength and positioning are just three of his strengths that make him an outstanding central defender, with the ability to also pick a pass and stay calm and collected when on the ball.
So, FSG simply must go all out to sign the German who previously operated under Jurgen Klopp during his time at Borussia Dortmund, so the Liverpool boss may already know how to get the best out of him.
