With a victory against Championship strugglers Ipswich at the weekend, QPR are now on a three match unbeaten run.
Steve McClaren’s men ran out 2-0 winners courtesy of an own goal and one from striker Tomer Hemed, and now sit in 16th place in the Championship.
However, The Rs didn’t have it all their own way at Portman Road, coming up second best in possession and passing. Despite The Tractor Boys having the lion’s share of the ball, The Hoops limited them to only one shot on target all game.
The key figures in limiting Ipswich to this extent were defenders Toni Leistner and Joel Lynch, as well as midfielder Geoff Cameron. But it was the American’s performance that was the most impressive in the win.
The Stoke loan oppressed the Ipswich midfield, stultifying their rhythm and preventing them from getting anything going. He didn’t necessarily offer too much in attack, but that is not why McClaren picks him.
The Rs face a Sheffield Wednesday team tonight that only just fell to league leaders Middlesbrough. They’ll be desperate to return to winning ways, and will travel to Loftus Road with the bit between their teeth. However, the former England boss has a lot of reasons to feel confident that his team can come away with the victory, particularly after their improving defensive efforts.
After a hopeless start to the season, QPR are improving week on week, and now are only four points behind sixth place Norwich. A win tonight will see them leapfrog The Owls in the table, although it is unclear where they will end up in the table.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
