Cenk Tosun joined Everton in January as the answer to the club’s striker conundrum- so far, he’s fallen wide of the mark.
The Turkey international made a relatively decent start to life in the Premier League, but was really expected to come into form this season after he had a few months under his belt in the league, but he just hasn’t. Goals have been fleeting for the player, and manager Marco Silva has lost patience in him.
The Portuguese has turned to new signing Richarlison over Tosun so far this season. However, the Brazilian is a natural winger; although he has taken to playing up front extremely well, many expect his flaws to slowly emerge. The Toffees need a natural striker and a natural goalscorer in the Premier League, and that man is Callum Wilson.
The Bournemouth striker has been one of the performers of the season so far, bagging six goals and four assists for Eddie Howe’s men. He is two shy of his Premier League goalscoring record and we are not even a third of the way through the season. With his coruscating form, speculation regarding his future will obviously emerge.
At 26 years old, Wilson is in the form of his life, and looks to have many good years to come, providing he can stay injury free. His inclusion to Gareth Southgate’s recent England squad typifies his progression, and he will therefore want to move to a club with more ambition than Bournemouth. While The Cherries have served Wilson very well, his next challenge beckons, and that should be at Goodison Park. It is a move that will be beneficial to both the club and the player.
The main reason why Everton should make this move is that Wilson is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, and that is what The Blues have missed out on with Tosun. New strikers are always a gamble if they have come from abroad, and that is the quality that makes the likes of Wilson a very valuable commodity.
