All the talk currently coming out of Selhurst Park is about the possible arrival of a striker.
Be it Michy Batshuayi permanently or someone else, Crystal Palace need to sign a centre-forward for the next Premier League campaign.
As well as that, though, the south London club could also probably do with bringing in a new central defender for later down the line.
The likes of James Tomkins and Scott Dann are in their thirties, while Mamadou Sakho, the Eagles’ best centre-back, has had his injury problems.
Bearing that in mind, a move for West Brom’s Dara O’Shea this summer would make a lot of sense.
The Republic of Ireland youth international is attracting interest from a host of clubs including Crystal Palace (Daily Mail), and it is not hard to see why.
At 20 years of age, O’Shea, who has had a stunning season in League 2 with Exeter City, looks to have a big future ahead of him and could become a mainstay at the heart of the Eagles’ defence for years to come.
A no-nonsense centre-half, who is also capable of playing in midfield, O’Shea is being tipped to make it to the very top by the man who has been overseeing his development this term.
“He could go all the way,” Exeter boss Matt Taylor told BBC Sport in March. “If you’re 19 years old and playing regularly at centre-half or centre midfield in League Two, you’ve got a chance of making it all the way in the game. Since he’s come into the team he’s been exceptional for us.”
If Roy Hodgson is in the market for a new central defender, then O’Shea is certainly worth a punt.
