Middlesbrough can go to the top of the Championship table tonight with a win against Sheffield Wednesday.
Tony Pulis’ men have that incentive as they head to Hillsborough, although the sixth placed Owls will want to maintain pressure on the top of the table with a win. Both clubs have a lot to play for, which makes this such an interesting affair.
The Boro have endured a bit of a slump since the last international break, only managing to win two league games in that time. This period has also seen a shake up in Pulis’ selection, with striker Britt Assombalonga losing his starting place in the team over the past two fixtures.
The Congo international made a blistering start to the season, but has been somewhat subdued in recent matches. After a break again, this should be the perfect time for Pulis to reintroduce him back into the team. It is clear to see that Jordan Hugill has struggle to impress when given the opportunity, and it is time that the powerful striker found his way back in the starting XI.
This could mean trouble for Wednesday centre-back Michael Hector, who will have the job of trying to contain the striker tonight. The Chelsea loan has been in the middle of a back three for manager Jos Lukukay in recent weeks, but this will be a tough test.
A Middlesbrough win will see them move to the top of the table, although that may only be temporary, with Sheffield United, West Brom and Leeds all to play tomorrow.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
