Rejuvenated Kenedy may be the key to Newcastle victory tomorrow

Newcastle are still searching for their first win of the season, as they sit second from bottom in the Premier League table.

However, The Magpies are entering a very favourable run of fixtures, which could see them climb up the table. Fans will hope that starts tomorrow at St James’ Park as Rafa Benítez’s men host Brighton.

The Spaniard will be particularly buoyed by his side’s performance against Man United at Old Trafford, where, despite losing the match, The Magpies had José Mourinho’s men in serious trouble. The performance of some of those player would also have filled the manager with delight, particularly Kenedy’s.

The Brazilian has had a torrid start to the season, defined by horrendous performances that have seen him be dropped. However, he started against The Red Devils, and very quickly paid back the manager’s faith in him by scoring in the opening goal inside ten minutes. But the player, on loan from Chelsea, was a continuous threat throughout the match, working well with attacking duo Ayoze Pérez and Yoshinori Muto.

This return to form will be a cause for concern for Brighton’s right-back tomorrow. While 38-year-old Bruno started in their last game, former Barcelona defender Martín Montoya has been manager Chris Hughton’s favourite throughout the season. However, whomever occupies that right flank will be in for a tough test if the Brazilian continues in the same vein of form.

Despite being second from bottom, a win tomorrow could see The Magpies move into 16th place in the league, providing other results go their way. This is because they still have a fairly good goal difference compared to the teams surrounding them.
