During the summer, Everton strengthened their midfield and attack significantly with the additions of Richarlison, Bernard and Andre Gomes.
However, the options manager Marco Silva currently has at disposal may not be enough for the Portuguese coach with the Daily Mail reporting the Toffees will make a move for free agent Samir Nasri once his drugs ban expires next month.
And any potential arrival of the Frenchman could have ramifications for certain individuals in the squad, none more so than Bernard despite the fact that he only joined the club a couple of months ago.
Silva is reportedly looking for cover for Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson in the positions behind the striker, which is something Nasri can obviously offer.
But in Bernard, the Everton boss already has a player capable of playing both on the left and in the No.10 role.
The Brazilian has impressed in the few cameos he has made since arriving at Goodison Park, but it is clearly not enough if Silva really is interested in bringing in Nasri.
The two players are very similar in the way they play between the lines and can dribble past opposition defenders.
The possible addition of Nasri would also have to worry players such as Ademola Lookman who are already struggling to find game time at Goodison Park under Silva.
Nasri joining the Merseyside club would only worsen things for such players and, in the end, it is a signing Everton could easily do without.
