Since arriving at Tottenham back in 2014, Mauricio Pochettino has accomplished a lot at the north London club in terms of building a team and overseeing its progression.
However, one thing the Argentinian has struggled with is finding suitable cover for striker Harry Kane.
Both Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente have been brought in by Pochettino in deals that were not particularly cheap, but neither of the two have really been able to step up to the plate when Kane has been unavailable.
And with the Independent now reporting that the latter is attracting interest from former club Athletic Bilbao, Pochettino could soon find himself dipping into the transfer market again for a new centre-forward.
With all of that in mind, the Tottenham boss should strongly consider looking at Callum Wilson come January.
£13.5m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Wilson has made a fantastic start to the season at Bournemouth — scoring six goals and providing four assists in 11 Premier League appearances — and has since been rewarded with a first England call-up for his fine form.
That alone, however, may not be enough to convince Tottenham supporters that Wilson is capable of being a reliable Kane alternative with it being a time of the campaign where a lot of strikers tend to have their purple patch.
Wilson, though, could still offer Tottenham plenty in attack regardless. Looking at Pochettino’s men, outside of Lucas Moura, there is not a lot of pace in the side. The Bournemouth centre-forward, however, is a player who would be able to inject more of that into the team.
For whatever reason, the transfers of Janssen and Llorente have simply not worked out, giving Pochettino something to think about in the next transfer window. And if the ex-Southampton manager decides it is time to change things up top, then he should look no further than Wilson.
