Rangers are expected to head into the transfer market this winter as they look to add some additional firepower to their ranks.
Steven Gerrard has Alfredo Morelos, Kyle Lafferty and Umar Sadiq as his recognised senior strikers, however, it is fair to say that he still requires some further depth.
Morelos has been in red-hot form for the Light Blues this season but there are some concerns when it comes to his discipline, as he has already had to miss some action through suspension, including their Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Aberdeen.
Lafferty arrived from Heart of Midlothian prior to the transfer window closing and has been in good touch for the Ibrox outfit, however, he has had his problems with injuries and fans have not been entirely impressed with his performances when paired with the Colombian.
Sadiq appears to be a completely different story though, as it would be fair to say that he has really struggled to adapt to life in Glasgow.
Having joined from AS Roma in the winter transfer on a loan deal, the Nigerian has failed to impress in the opportunities that he has had, albeit having very limited chances and there has been talk that the club could end his loan as soon as January.
Gerrard will likely head into the transfer market once again in January with a striker in mind and would do no wrong in trying to use the relationships he has created in trying to add a new face.
Elias Sorensen has been impressive for Newcastle United’s developmental side this season and has recently been involved with the senior side in training sessions.
However, it is understood that Rafa Benitez could look to loan him out for the second half of the campaign to get regular first-team action with League One or League Two thought to be likely destinations, as per the Newcastle Chronicle.
The Dane has hit 15 goals this season including three goals in the club’s Checkatrade Trophy campaign this year, which has seen him get goals against third and fourth tier sides.
Gerrard should look to take advantage of this and look to bring the Dane to Ibrox, and you would have to feel that he would have a good chance of doing so.
The former Liverpool man played under Benitez at Anfield and struck up a good relationship, which could work for both parties.
Gerrard would be getting a striker that has shown signs of what he can do, whilst Benitez will feel the teenager will get a great chance of continuing his development at another club with the chance of regular football on offer.
The Light Blues have already shown that they are prepared to play younger players, with the likes of Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria having featured prominently this season.
Sorensen could also benefit from getting some European football under his belt, should Rangers still be in the Europa League, whilst he would be getting top-flight experience in a top-flight division that will help further aid his development.
