Fulham suffered another poor result in the Premier League over the weekend following their 3-0 loss at home to Bournemouth in a game where the team’s defence was once again badly exposed.
Slavisa Jokanovic’s men have the worst defensive record in the division having conceded 28 goals in 10 games and currently sit in the relegation zone.
Fulham are also the only club in English football’s top flight yet to keep a clean sheet, putting into perspective how frail they have been at the back this campaign. As far as Premier League survival goes, though, all is not lost.
While it is clear that Jokanovic’s men have not been good enough defensively, going forward, they look a much better outfit than most of the teams around them.
Largely thanks to Aleksandar Mitrovic and Andre Schurrle, the Whites have been able to outscore bottom of the table Huddersfield Town, Newcastle United and Cardiff City among others.
Ultimately, should Mitrovic and Schurrle be able to maintain their early-season form, Fulham will easily have enough firepower to take their fight for survival all the way to the end, something which cannot be said about a lot of newly-promoted sides.
Together, the Serbian and German have netted nine league goals in total and both are well on course to reaching double figures.
There is no doubt that defensively Fulham will have to improve if they are to have any chance of survival, but Mitrovic and Schurrle’s goals can keep Jokanovic’s side alive once the Premier League table starts to take real shape.
Around them, the likes of Huddersfield and Cardiff are not blessed with the same kind of forward options.
