TT Introduces: Nathan Ake - Introducing

What Eddie Howe has done this season at Bournemouth is absolutely staggering and as it stands, Bournemouth sit sixth – ahead of Man U – in the table and are one of the form sides in the league while Man U look like a game away from crisis.

Up front, Callum Wilson has been a star for the club and as it stands, he’s scored five goals while also grabbing four assists. Likewise, Ryan Fraser has been superb this season and as it stands, he’s joint top with Benjamin Mendy with five assists.

Away from the two strikers, Nathan Ake has been outstanding at the back for The Cherries. The Dutchman joins Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne as a team of castoffs who never got a chance at Chelsea but has since gone on to blossom elsewhere.

With Man U struggling at the back and Ake having so far been outstanding for Bournemouth, it seems the defender is a perfect fit for Mourinho.

Man United’s desperate hunt for a centre-back over the last few years has seen the club sign Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly, both of whom have been pretty poor since they joined the club.

Bailly has struggled with injuries but when he has managed to get on the field, he’s been very erratic while Lindelof just doesn’t look like the long-term solution, although he had one of his best games for the club against Juventus last week.

In order to replace the two defenders, Man U had been linked with moves for Raphael Varane, Jerome Boateng and Toby Alderweireld to name just a few over the summer.

In Ake, however, they have a top quality defender much closer to home and one player that over the last few months has begun to gain attention from some of the top six, including Man U.

Despite not fitting the huge six foot plus mould of previous Mourinho defenders, Ake is an incredibly talented centreback. The defender is quick, he reads the game well and as with most defenders, he’s great with the ball. Aside from Smalling, Ake is a much more reliable defender and one that seems to ooze calm rather than the panic United defender always seem to exude.

At 23-year-old, Ake has tonnes of potential and if Mourinho is wise, he should be the defender that Man U target going forward.

Man U fans, what do you think?
