Despite making a solid start to the season, Rangers are going to face a tough battle for the title this season as they remain one of five potential contenders for the Premiership title.
While Celtic neglected their squad over the summer, Rangers brought in a host of new players to arm Gerrard with a team capable of finally toppling their bitter rivals from their throne.
Although they currently sit fifth in the table, Rangers look like they could well win the title and in Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty, they have two forwards that can fire them to the top spot.
Moreover, at the back, James Tavernier has been a star performer and has also chipped in on the goal front as he’s scored five in the league.
Liverpool loanee Ryan Kent too is beginning to show some serious form for the club and looks as though he could represent an astute piece of business from Gerrard.
Following the Liverpool trend, former Reds man, Jordan Rossiter could be in line to play tonight after making his first league start against Hamilton Academicals 10 days ago.
The battling midfielder has had a tough time since moving north of the border as he’s struggled with injuries but his return could be huge for Gerrard tonight but also for the season ahead.
Since making his move to Rangers two years ago, Rossiter has only made 13 appearances for the club. However, at just 21, there’s still so much to come from the midfielder and with his return, Gerrard now has a someone to bolster his fairly limited midfield options.
Summer arrival Lassana Coulibaly has been a welcome addition to the club this year but with Gerrard favouring a 4-3-3 formation, the powerful midfielder would be better suited playing in a more advanced role.
In Rossiter, Gerrard has the perfect man to sit at the base of midfield and provide a screen for his defence. He may not excel with the ball at his feet but what he does do is provide physicality and steel. With so many attacking going forward, he’s the ideal man for Gerrard to play tonight and if he does, he should shut down Kilmarnock, or at least that’s what Gerrard will be hoping for.
