Since their 3-0 win over Preston North End in September, Leeds have gone through a tough spell of form and only managed to win one game in their subsequent five games and most recently lost to Blackburn at the weekend.
At the beginning of the season, Leeds had started the year incredibly well and surged to the top of the table thanks to Marcelo Bielsa’s rewarding, yet demanding high-energy style of play.
Under the Argentine’s intense style of play, Leeds smothered their opponents but in recent weeks, it seems as though Bielsa’s demanding play has begun to take its toll on the squad as the like of Pablo Hernandez, Kemar Roofe and Gaetano Berardi have all missed games due to injury.
All three returned to the side against Blackburn and thankfully so considering Leeds’ poor form without them.
Before picking up his injury, Roofe had become one of the most potent strikers in the Championship. The Englishman’s all-round game had seemingly completely improved as he not only became a great goalscorer but also became more effective and creating goals and pressing from the front.
Against Blackburn, the star striker was played on the wing by Bielsa while young striker, Tyler Roberts kept his spot up front. Since he’s been out with injury, Leeds have lost a player that has bought into Bielsa’s style of play instantly.
In such a tough league with so many teams contending for promotion, Bielsa needs his star striker back in tonight’s game, he needs to play him up front instead of Roberts.
