Liverpool’s injury problems are well documented at the moment, with a host of their stars uncertain to play.
Key men Mo Salah, Sadio Mané and Virgil van Dijk all picked up injuries during the international break, and no one is sure whether they will feature or not.
The chances are that at least one of them will play, with the club remaining coy all week, but manager Jürgen Klopp may not want to risk all three of them as The Reds travel to Huddersfield tomorrow evening. While Salah has returned to training, Mané has not. But there is more of a risk of the Egyptian aggravating his muscle injury than Mané doing further damage to his thumb after surgery.
However, in Xherdan Shaqiri, Klopp has a very able deputy for either man. The Swiss has only made one start in the league this season since joining from Stoke in the summer and will be champing at the bit to get a chance to impress.
He has, of course, been behind two of the best wingers in the league, but he must seize this opportunity with both hands should it come to him against The Terriers tomorrow.
The 27-year-old is certainly the quality to be a starter in the Premier League, and he will be desperate to prove that. He will know that the Egyptian and the Senegal international have set the bar extraordinarily high over the past year, so he will have to be at the top of his game to influence his manager.Like what the TT have on offer?
