# West Ham: Fans react to potential new contract offer for Declan Rice

**Declan Rice has a special place in the hearts of many West Ham fans as he is a [product of their academy](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/profil/spieler/357662), but it seemed possible that he could be [moving to Chelsea](https://metro.co.uk/2020/09/24/declan-rice-pushing-to-sign-for-chelsea-before-transfer-window-closes-13322056/) in the most recent transfer window.**

However, a recent update suggests the Irons may be able to keep hold of their star man, much to the delight of many supporters. The defensive midfielder is a key asset for the club and this is highlighted by his status as their [captain](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/october/04-october/team-news-coufal-makes-west-ham-debut-leicester) at the tender age of [21.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/332325/Show/Declan-Rice)

Frank Khalid is [reporting](https://twitter.com/FrankKhalidUK/status/1319175655167283200?s=20) that the Hammers are planning to offer Rice a lucrative new contract in order to convince him to snub a move to Stamford Bridge.

This development is a big positive for those associated with West Ham. He averaged 3.1 tackles and two interceptions a game last season ([WhoScored)](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/332325/Show/Declan-Rice), as well as picking up one goal and three assists, keeping hold of such a consistent performer is certainly a boost.

News of the reported contract offer for Rice seems promising for the Irons, as he is a key player in David Moyes’ side, [playing every minute of their season so far](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/leistungsdaten/verein/379); and there is ample time for the [England international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/profil/spieler/357662) to get even better as his career develops.
