# West Ham United: Fans react glumly to Fabrizio Romano update on Declan Rice’s future

**According to a tweet from football journalist Fabrizio Romano (via [@FabrizioRomano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1309094467337687043)), West Ham are adamant that they will not sell Declan Rice in this transfer window but the player is pushing to join Chelsea.**

The Blues have been linked with a [potential £80m move](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12528848/declan-rice-chelsea-transfer/) for the 21-year-old throughout the summer but, [as per Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1309094467337687043), have not yet made an official bid for him and may need to sell or loan players before they can bring him in.

Rice, who has [nine caps for England,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/nationalmannschaft/spieler/357662/verein_id/3299) [started every Premier League game for the Irons](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/332325/History/Declan-Rice) last season and the [first two league matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/leistungsdaten/spieler/357662) of the current campaign, winning the club’s [Hammer of the Year award](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/july/26-july/declan-rice-crowned-201920-betway-hammer-year) for 2019/20 as David Moyes’ team narrowly avoided relegation from the top flight.

Amid a [mood of toxic discontent](https://www.givemesport.com/1598125-west-ham-owners-called-the-worst-in-the-premier-league-in-damning-twitter-thread) towards the club’s owners from many supporters, the Irons have begun the season with [two league defeats](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/spielplan/verein/379) and have a [daunting set of fixtures coming up](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/spielplan/verein/379), with [minimal incoming transfer activity](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/transfers/verein/379) thus far.

These West Ham fans on Twitter reacted glumly to Romano’s update and would not begrudge Rice a move to Chelsea if it goes through in the coming days:
