# Manchester United: Fans slam Red Devils’ interest in Ousmane Dembele as cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho

**Manchester United are considering Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele as an alternative to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top target Jadon Sancho this summer, according to [reports](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4157124/man-utd-eye-barcelonas-dembele-as-sancho-alternative-sources).**

Borussia Dortmund sporting director [Michael Zorc](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-transfer-rumours/jadon-sancho-manchester-united-ed-woodward-transfer-poker-game-latest-old-trafford/) dismissed all speculation surrounding Sancho’s potential transfer to Old Trafford when he told reporters that the winger will be staying at Signal Iduna Park for the 2020/21 Bundesliga season.

According to [ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4157124/man-utd-eye-barcelonas-dembele-as-sancho-alternative-sources), as per [@utdreport](https://twitter.com/utdreport/status/1293152684367699969), Man United have held informal talks with Barcelona to sort out a possible deal for Dembele, despite the fact that the 23-year-old has not played a competitive game since [November](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4157124/man-utd-eye-barcelonas-dembele-as-sancho-alternative-sources).

Solskjaer has made it clear that Sancho remains his top priority, but the [Red Devils](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4157124/man-utd-eye-barcelonas-dembele-as-sancho-alternative-sources) are ready to renew their interest in the [21-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ousmane-dembele/profil/spieler/288230) France international if Ed Woodward can’t make a breakthrough in negotiations with Dortmund.

After arriving at the Nou Camp for [£135m](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7983487/Dembele-looked-like-big-money-mistake-rest-SEASON.html) from the Bundesliga runners-up, the La Liga giants had high hopes for the right winger, but his time in the Spanish top flight has been plagued by a string of [persistent injury problems](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ousmane-dembele/verletzungen/spieler/288230). The French attacking midfielder only managed [nine appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/299513/Show/Ousmane-Demb%C3%A9l%C3%A9) in all competitions last term before his season was prematurely cut short.

It is understood that the Blaugrana are prepared to listen to offers and both clubs have been discussing a potential [season-long loan](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4157124/man-utd-eye-barcelonas-dembele-as-sancho-alternative-sources).

Naturally, many United fans slammed the “rubbish” transfer news on social media, with one fan branding him a “flop”, while another added that the report must be “nonsense” due to his injury record.
