# Jamal Lewis – Profile

**Name: Jamal Lewis**

**Club: Norwich City**

**Date of Birth: 25 January 1998**

**Position: Left-back/Left midfielder**

## Jamal Lewis – his career so far

**Jamal Lewis** followed a similar path towards becoming a big part of **Norwich City’s** senior team as his fellow teammate on the opposite side of the pitch, **Max Aarons**, as both young full-backs joined the *Canaries* after initially developing their trade over at **Luton Town**.

But even from a really early age, the now 22-year-old left-back has been seen as a great athlete and someone who was bound to step into the professional world of sports sooner or later. Following great success with his first football outfit, **Lewis** was scouted and signed by **Norwich City** in 2014, joining their youth academy and quickly making his mark in the club.

He started competing for their young development squads in 2014/15 and 2015/16, tallying two appearances for the U18s in the *FA Youth Cup* before making a switch to the U23 squad, where he spent the majority of his stay in the youth ranks of **Norwich City**.

**Lewis** ended up tallying 25 appearances for the team, even netting two goals in the process and already turning some heads along the way. It wouldn’t be long until he was ready for another step up, this time into the senior world of the *Canaries*.

At the end of the 2016/17 campaign, he signed a new contract with the club that would stretch until 2021 but would later on in 2018 extend it once again. He made his senior debut for **Norwich City** against **Brentford**, coming on as a substitute later on in the clash but would get his first start against **Birmingham** on Boxing Day 2017.

**Lewis** was crucial in the *Canaries’* promotion-winning 2018/19 season, winning EFL Young Player of the Month in September 2018 in the process, and was also included in the 2018/19 Championship Team of the Season alongside **Aarons** and **Teemu Pukki**.

Since his debut, the young full-back has already played a total of 89 games for **Norwich City**, scoring twice and assisting further four goals along the way too. But he is only 22 years of age and it’s sometimes easy to forget he can still improve and become even better than he currently is.

## **Transfer latest**

**Lewis’** current contract is still valid until 2023 but the player could very well depart the team much sooner than that. Back in January, some *transfer rumours* were connecting him with a move to **Crystal Palace** and we still don’t know what exactly does the future hold for the 22-year-old talent.

With the *Canaries* also being in danger of relegation at the end 1of the season, unless the campaign gets voided, it is possible that they may lose some of their most influential players along the way too.

However, there are still no concrete [**Norwich City news**](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/norwich-city-news/) suggesting that might be the case but they should also be on high alert for such a situation, in case things really don’t go their way.

## **Player profile**

Having previously been a national athletics champion as a child, it probably doesn’t come as a surprise to say that **Lewis** is a highly energetic and pacey full-back who loves to exploit acres of space behind the opposition’s backline.

**Norwich City** are blessed to have both of their wide defenders well capable of defending but also linking up with their teammates and keeping the width in the final third when required to do so. Just like **Aarons** on the other side of the pitch, the 22-year-old left-back is dangerous in isolated duels and has good technical ability to combine with his teammates when advancing up the park.

But one should also not disregard his defensive responsibilities and despite being so young and still growing in both confidence and experience, **Lewis** can boast with good positional awareness and timing in tackles and interceptions.
