# West Ham United: Fans react to James Tarkowski transfer news

**Many West Ham United fans have been left reacting to transfer news which has emerged on James Tarkowski.**

As per [The Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-january-transfer-window-daniel-kretinsky-b965632.html), the Burnley defender would be ‘open’ to a move to the London Stadium, and David Moyes is a ‘long-term admirer’ of the 28-year-old. His current deal with the Clarets expires in the summer and they value him at £20m, although the east London club are ‘unlikely’ to match that asking price given his contract situation.

Tarkowski would provide quality competition for the Hammers’ current centre-backs, as he has actually [averaged](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/131464/Show/James-Tarkowski) more tackles, interceptions and blocks per game in the Premier League than Angelo Ogbonna, Craig Dawson and Kurt Zouma so far this season ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/29/Show/England-West-Ham)).

However, £20m does seem like a sizeable transfer fee for a player who could leave for free in just a few months’ time, so the Irons should also consider other options.

### West Ham fans on Tarkowski transfer news

These West Ham supporters seemed split on the Tarkowski links as the transfer news was shared on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/central_louis/status/1458759299954622465):

**“Yes, quality centre-back & if Moyes want him why would anyone else say no? I never really see us linked in the same way with strikers though, never solid names like this.”**

**“No-brainer for me. At 28yrs old, he has tons of PL experience, 6 months remaining on his contract plus being left-footed (not too many of them around) is a long-term replacement for Oggy.”**

**“Would love this tbh, quality defender”**
