# Leeds: Whites linked with Japhet Tanganga

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) have been linked with a move for Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga in the last 24 hours.**

### The Lowdown: Tanganga profiled

The 23-year-old is [primarily](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/japhet-tanganga/profil/spieler/346478) a centre-back who can also line out at right-back.

Valued at £10.8m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/japhet-tanganga/profil/spieler/346478), the Englishman has made [43](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/japhet-tanganga/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/346478/verein/148) senior appearances for Spurs after progressing through their academy, [19](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/japhet-tanganga/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/346478) of which came last season.

He’s under contract in north London until [2025](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/japhet-tanganga/profil/spieler/346478) but [reportedly](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/spurs-news-tanganga-talks-ac-milan-latest-update-thfc/) wants to leave the club in search of more game time.

### The Latest: Leeds linked with Tanganga

[Tuttomercatoweb](https://m.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-milan-tanganga-primo-obiettivo-ma-scoglio-formula-e-ha-richieste-in-premier-1720649) shared a transfer update regarding Tanganga on Monday evening following links of a move to AC Milan.

They said that, ‘in the last few hours’, Leeds have joined the race for the defender alongside Everton and Newcastle.

### The Verdict: Avoid?

It appears as if Victor Orta has looked into a move for Tanganga following the impressive 3-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday, although a move for the defender doesn’t appear to be necessary at this moment in time.

Jesse Marsch has plenty of [options](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/kader/verein/399) at centre-back and right-back, but you could say that left-back is an area where the club are somewhat [light](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/kader/verein/399) with Junior Firpo still [sidelined](https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwip_qX1udz5AhWuTEEAHdn6DvsQFnoECAQQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Ftheathletic.com%2Fnews%2Fjunior-firpo-injury-leeds%2F9bwjVKD0LPqZ%2F&usg=AOvVaw2CoU-MFCEcOr6taxINuqn6).

Tanganga, who BBC pundit Alan Shearer labelled [‘magnificent’](https://www.premierleague.com/news/2221015), has only played at left-back on [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/japhet-tanganga/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/346478) occasions, and with a new forward [also required](https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwj3kPGQutz5AhUVilwKHc8lDCMQFnoECA0QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.leeds-live.co.uk%2Fsport%2Fleeds-united%2Fleeds-united-news-marsch-addresses-24752530&usg=AOvVaw3koRrZX3uDUdfMp-dWXSpx) at Elland Road before the 1 September deadline, it could be wise for Leeds to look elsewhere for new arrivals in the final few days of the transfer window.
