# Manchester United: Sky Sports share Jeremie Frimpong transfer update

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/)’s chase for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is ‘getting hotter’, according to [Sky Sports Germany](https://sport.sky.de/transfer/news/34132/12757570/bayer-leverkusen-transfer-es-wird-heisser-zwischen-frimpong-manchester-united).**

### The Lowdown: Gakpo ‘agreement’

The Red Devils appear to be making plans for the January transfer window, with PSV forward Cody Gakpo seemingly a key target. He has shone on the world stage in Qatar, scoring [three goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/335/Show/Netherlands-Netherlands) in as many games to help his country qualify for the last 16.

Recent [reports](https://www.footballinsider247.com/man-united-gakpo-sources/) have claimed that United have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ to sign the player, and it looks as if [another member](https://getfootballnewsbene.com/full-list-holland-final-world-cup-squad-includes-xavi-simons-and-memphis-depay/) of the Netherlands’ [World Cup](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/world-cup-2022/) squad could be on the move to Old Trafford.

### The Latest: Frimpong transfer update

### The Verdict: Wan-Bissaka replacement?

Diogo Dalot has been Erik ten Hag’s first-choice right-back this season, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka playing just [four minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-wan-bissaka/leistungsdaten/spieler/477758) of Premier League action so far in 2022/23.

United appear to be [keen](https://www.teamtalk.com/manchester-united/exclusive-man-utd-spark-january-bidding-war-two-premier-league-suitors-chasing-big-money-flop-ten-hag-refuses-play) to offload the former Crystal Palace man in 2023, so Frimpong could be the ideal long-term replacement at Old Trafford.

Hailed as a [‘special player’](https://www.getfootballnewsgermany.com/2022/xabi-alonso-praises-jeremie-frimpong-after-world-cup-call-up/) by his manager Xabi Alonso, Frimpong is still just 21 years of age and can play as a left-back or further forward as a right midfielder [if required](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jeremie-frimpong/profil/spieler/484547).

Therefore, considering his versatility and age, and having gone from strength to strength with Leverkusen over the last 18 months, the former Celtic gem could be a shrewd prospective signing for United.
