# Celtic: John McGinley fumes over challenge on Tom Rogic

**Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic was ‘put at risk’ by referee Don Robertson in Saturday’s victory over Ross County, [John McGinley has claimed](https://twitter.com/jhnmcgnly/status/1505205748166504457).**

### The lowdown

The Hoops won 4-0 at Parkhead to move six points clear at the top of the Premiership, but the Australian’s injury may somewhat tarnish the win. Rogic was forced off around 10 minutes before half-time, with Matt O’Riley replacing him.

The 30-year-old was on the end of what [one Sky Sports journalist called a ‘two-footed lunge’](https://www.skysports.com/football/celtic-vs-ross-county/live/445459) from Ross County’s Kayne Ramsay, who was subsequently sent off, and [McGinley felt](https://twitter.com/jhnmcgnly/status/1505204449568043012) that Ramsay had been fortunate to escape a booking about five minutes earlier for a tackle on Daizen Maeda.

### The latest

Celtic writer and podcaster McGinley took to Twitter to call out Ramsay’s challenge on Rogic, accusing Robertson of failing to adequately protect the Hoops midfielder.

McGinley fumed: “Kayne Ramsay gets a straight red card with a wild tackle moments after he didn’t get a yellow for another heavy tackle. Tom Rogic put at risk by the referee.”

### The verdict

Ange Postecoglou has previously aired public grievances with Robertson. Following a Scottish Cup game against Alloa Athletic in January, [he complained](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ange-postecoglou-demands-celtic-player-26048351) that the referee was failing to properly punish ‘reckless’ challenges which were endangering the safety of his players.

It’s fair to say that the 35-year-old’s appointment for any further Celtic fixtures may prove to be unpopular with supporters.

As for Rogic, he ha already had one spell on the sidelines this season (he missed [seven matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-rogic/leistungsdaten/spieler/213672) following a hamstring injury in the autumn), and he may now be fearing another lengthy layoff.

It would certainly be a blow to the Hoops to lose their [joint-top assists provider](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/celtic/top-scorers/assists) for any significant period of time, and it would be all the more galling if it comes about from being the victim of a dangerous challenge.
