# Tottenham Hotspur: Fabrizio Romano drops transfer news on Spurs defender Juan Foyth

**Writing on Twitter, reliable Sky Sport transfer guru [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1312033254216806400?s=21) has dropped a transfer claim surrounding Tottenham defender Juan Foyth, claiming that ‘the last details’ will be sorted on a season-long loan move to Villarreal – potentially opening up squad space in Daniel Levy’s [hunt for a centre-back](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/milan-skriniar-tottenham-latest-mourinho-19041948).**

Foyth, who has been [tipped for the exit door](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/tottenham-juan-foyth-transfer-latest-leeds/) this season in a bid to get more playing time, will now join the La Liga side on a temporary deal with an option to buy next summer, with the fee expected to be around [£13.5m](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1312033254216806400?s=21).

The 6ft 2 colossus, who found precious Premier League minutes [difficult to come by](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/juan-foyth/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/480763/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/148) last season, was seen as one for the future and even [earned worthy praise](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/11550820/mauricio-pochettino-praises-quality-juan-foyth-after-winning-goal-for-tottenham-at-crystal-palace) from ex-Lilywhites manager Mauricio Pochettino, who called him ‘[quality](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/11550820/mauricio-pochettino-praises-quality-juan-foyth-after-winning-goal-for-tottenham-at-crystal-palace)‘.

A [versatile defensive unit](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/juan-foyth/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/480763), the young Spurs star can play both in the centre-back role and out wide, but given Levy’s [hunt for Milan Skriniar](https://sportwitness.co.uk/club-waiting-spurs-offer-next-hours-player-already-said-yes-london-move/) or another alternative centre-back to complete a stunning transfer window, he is now surplus to requirements in north London.

As a result, he will join Villarreal for the 2020/21 season and could move there permanently at the end of this agreement, depending on how he fares in La Liga.

This is a good bit of business again by chairman Levy – the £13.5m option to buy could be seen as a real masterstroke given that Foyth only started one top-flight game in 2019/20 ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/335107/History/Juan-Foyth)).

It also helps the club to recuperate some of their losses after a summer of heavy spending, not to mention the fact that Villarreal will supposedly pay [100% of his salary](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1312033254216806400?s=21).

As players start to be trimmed off Jose Mourinho’s squad, this Foyth deal in particular could pay dividends.
