# Keep or sell? Conte has a massive decision to make on these 2 particular Chelsea players

**Chelsea Supporters in the Transfer Tavern are patiently waiting for the announcement of new arrivals.**

Having been crowned Champions of England for the sixth time, Chelsea fans are anticipating a busy transfer window, as Conte looks to strengthen his squad.

Due to Chelsea’s lack of involvement in the Champions League last season, Conte made the fewest changes out of any other manager in the Premier League.

However, no such luxuries can be afforded to the Italian this season as the Chelsea hierarchy realise the importance of utilising their financial resources.

While several prominent players such as[Alex Sandro, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Romelu Luakau and Virgil Van Dijk](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/626285/Chelsea-transfer-news-Tiemoue-Bakayoko-medical-complete-announcement-weekend) have all been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, the Blues face many difficult decisions regarding potential departures.

Our landlord has decided to take a look at TWO players that Conte could look to keep our sell this summer….

## Marco Van Ginkel

When Chelsea purchased Van Ginkel from Vitesse in the summer of 2013, there was a considerable sense of excitement affiliated with the transfer.

The Dutch international was seen as one of the most prestigious young talents that Holland had to offer; there also was an indication that Mourinho was eager to utilise the starlet.

Nonetheless, the 24-year-old suffered anterior cruciate ligament injury away at Swindon Town that kept him absent for the following seven months.

Consequently, the young midfielder fell out-of-favour at Chelsea and spent the next few years circling Europe as a member of the Blues’ infamous ‘loan army’.

Van Ginkel failed to make a meaningful impact at AC Milan or Stoke City, and questions were raised of his temperament.

However, Van Ginkel spent the remainder of the 2015/16 season with PSV scoring eight goals in 13 league appearances helping his side lift the Eredivisie.

He also spent the second-half of last season on loan with PSV where he scored seven goals in 15 appearances.

Therein lies Conte’s dilemma, does MVG possess the necessary traits and skills to succeed outside of Holland? Our landlord believes despite the fact that the box-to-box midfielder flaunts an astonishing goal-scoring record with PSV, succeeding at Chelsea could be a bridge too far.

Considering the competition that he’ll face it is unlikely that Van Ginkel will be able to make a purposeful impact. Conte should look to sell the midfielder to the benefit of all parties.

## Lewis Baker

Another intriguing midfield option at Antonio Conte’s disposal is Lewis Baker.

Despite failing to prosper enormously on loan at Sheffield Wednesday or Milton Keynes Dons, the 22-year-old has thrived with Dutch Club Vitesse, and his performances with England have certainly evoked the interest of many potential suitors.

A product of Chelsea’s youth academy and relentless money-making loan machine, Baker, has impressed enormously over the duration of the past twelve months.

The Englishman won the golden boot at the Toulon Tournament in 2016 and flourished with England at the under-21 European Championships.

Additionally, Baker has scored a respectable total of 20 goals in 72 appearances for Vitesse, which included 15 goals in all competitions last year.

He was instrumental in his side’s KNVB Cup success – the first major cup that the club has ever won.

The centre-midfielder is renowned for his ability to score goals, especially from long-range. Baker is incredibly proficient from set-piece situations and could provide another dimension to Chelsea’s midfield.

The Blues have yet to identify a goal-scoring midfielder capable of hitting double figures in the league as Frank Lampard so famously achieved; Lewis Baker could provide that option – an attacking threat off the bench.

Given the 22-year-old’s homegrown status he would be of considerable benefit to Conte as a squad player, and our landlord believes thoroughly that the Italian should keep the youngster as a team player.
