# Liverpool: Fans slam James Pearce comments on Jurgen Klopp successor

**Jurgen Klopp has done what can only be described as an outstanding job at Liverpool since joining in 2015.**

When he took over from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015, the Reds had won just [four](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/34469429) of their first 11 matches in all competitions that campaign. Now, they lead the way by a huge [25](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table) points from Manchester City – the [biggest such margin](https://www.premierleague.com/news/1561869) in the club’s history – and they lifted the Champions League last season as well.

Having already spent five years at the club, he has a contract lasting [four more years](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jurgen-klopp/profil/trainer/118), meaning that his current deal will come to an end in 2024. It remains to be seen whether he signs a new contract with the club, but if he doesn’t, someone else will need to take over.

Liverpool reporter James Pearce [has been talking](https://theathletic.com/1746208/2020/04/16/james-pearces-liverpool-ending-the-season-transfers-and-players-mental-health/?source=emp_shared_article) about who should replace him, and he believes that one of Steven Gerrard, Pep Lijnders or Mauricio Pochettino should be given the job once the 52-year-old departs.

The Reds fans have been reacting to the quotes, and they have absolutely slammed the journalist – one supporter even said he has a “[lack of basic football knowledge](https://twitter.com/nomad56060053/status/1250954569259106304?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw).”
