# Celtic: Kieran Devlin provides update on Kyogo Furuhashi

**[The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3189368/2022/03/18/celtic-fans-discuss-the-ross-county-game-with-our-reporter-kieran-devlin/)‘s Celtic correspondent Kieran Devlin has shared an update on Kyogo Furuhashi’s recovery from a hamstring injury.**

### The lowdown

The 27-year-old has been struggling with his hamstring [since the Europa League win against Real Betis](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10294707/Celtic-boss-Ange-Postecoglou-admits-Kyogo-Furuhashi-hamstring-injury-not-good.html) in December. He returned against St Johnstone on Boxing Day, [only to suffer a recurrence](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kyogo-furuhashi/leistungsdaten/spieler/489463) just 15 minutes into the game.

The Japanese forward [hasn’t played since](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kyogo-furuhashi/leistungsdaten/spieler/489463), and there has been a lack of clarity over when he might back. At the weekend, Ange Postecoglou [refused ‘to put timelines on it’](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/celtic/kyogo-furuhashi-celtic-forward-wasnt-kidnapped-quips-ange-postecoglou-3618410), merely telling reporters that the player is ‘working towards’ a comeback and that the Hoops boss hoped to have him available ‘soon’.

### The latest

On [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3189368/2022/03/18/celtic-fans-discuss-the-ross-county-game-with-our-reporter-kieran-devlin/)‘s matchday forum over the weekend, a Celtic supporter asked Devlin if Furuhashi was back in training.

The journalist replied: “Believe he’s running again, but not sure the extent of his involvement with the rest of training.”

### The verdict

Celtic may be desperate to get Furuhashi back before the end of the international break. Their next game – on Sunday 3 April – is a potentially season-defining clash against Rangers at Ibrox.

They then face St Johnstone in their last match prior to the split, before locking horns with their Glasgow arch-rivals again in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

Furuhashi, who remains the Hoops’ top scorer with [13 goals](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/celtic/top-scorers), has already stepped up on the big occasion this season, most notably [netting twice](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/36621/12498237/hibernian-1-2-celtic-kyogo-furuhashi-wins-scottish-league-cup-final-for-ange-postecoglous-celtic) in the Scottish League Cup final against Hibernian in December. With a few more season-defining clashes to come, Postecoglou could certainly do with having him back once those roll around.
