Barcelona have reportedly rejected Paris Saint-Germain’s latest demands over Neymar, according to ESPN FC.
The Parisians have apparently requested that Barca pay €130m PLUS three players for the Brazilian winger.
Following a series of meetings between the two clubs this week, PSG told Barca that they wanted Ivan Rakitic and Jean-Clair Todibo to be included in the deal on a permanent basis, alongside a season-long loan for Ousmane Dembele as well as €130m in cash.
Barcelona were unprepared to agree on that, and are now renegotiating with the French champions before Monday’s transfer deadline, though a deal for their former player is now looking increasingly more unlikely.
With just three days to go in the transfer window, sources at Barcelona have confirmed to ESPN FC that, as things stand, they are unlikely to make another bid.
A deal for the 27-year-old has not been completely ruled out, though, with the Catalans still open to renegotiating a transfer should Paris Saint-Germain come back to them.
PSG have valued their prized asset at €170m, and Barcelona are simply unable to pay that having spent heavily already this summer. The Spaniards have tried to negotiate a payment plan with the Ligue 1 titans, which would see them pay for Neymar in three separate instalments over the next three years, but PSG are not interested in that option.
With the recent injuries to both Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe – which could see the pair sidelined for the next month – perhaps keeping hold of Neymar would be the best option for PSG.
For Barcelona, while Neymar is clearly a talent and someone who helped them win a treble in the not-so-distant past, Antoine Griezmann did step up in the absence of both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez against Real Betis, while Ousmane Dembele averaged 2.3 dribbles per game last season – potentially offering a more direct option in the club’s attack.
Frankly, the club don’t really need him, despite his talent.
