Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) reports that Barcelona sent a club official to watch RB Salzburg youngster Erling Braut Haaland, as the 19-year-old stuck three goals past Genk in the Austrian club’s Champions League group stage curtain-raiser on Tuesday night.
The Norwegian frontman has captured the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs already this term, with Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also reportedly keeping tabs on his former Molde player.
European heavyweights Barcelona have also been alerted to the Scandinavian wonderkid, and if the reports are true, will have been extremely impressed with what they saw on Tuesday night, as Haaland netted a first-half hat-trick in a 6-2 win for his side on the European main stage.
The former Molde attacker has scored 17 goals and provided five assists in just nine appearances for Salzburg this term (Transfermarkt), making him one of the most in-form strikers in Europe at the moment.
Should he continue to find the back of the net on a regular basis, it is likely that he’ll be snapped up by one of the continent’s biggest clubs, with Barcelona arguably one of the world’s most desired destinations for a young footballer.
Haaland’s statistics this season are impressive, and his display in the Champions League this week has shown the footballing world that he’s got what it takes to cut it at the very top.
Now, with all this speculation surrounding him, he must try not to lose focus and continue performing to the level he has been all season.
From Barcelona’s perspective, they have shown by signing the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Junior Firpo this summer that they are keen on nourishing younger players through at Camp Nou, making a move for the 19-year-old Norwegian seem like a potential scenario next year.
