Barcelona’s midfield is in a transitional period, with Xavi and Andres Iniesta both leaving over the last three years and Busquets now 31-years-old.
Frenkie de Jong was, perhaps, signed to lead the next generation of success at the Nou Camp, and he’s settling in well alongside some of the best players in the world – although he has already been keen to state he doesn’t want any comparisons being drawn regarding him and the aforementioned legendary duo (per Barca TV via Goal).
He’s started seven of his new club’s first eight games, even scoring a goal and making an assist in the process. SPORT, via Forbes, pointed out his passing accuracy in La Liga (92.9%) is second only to Toni Kroos who has a 93.1% success rate. They also showed he’s performing at that level in Europe too, with him ranked fifth for pass completion in the first two games, with 91.4%.
The future seems bright for De Jong and fans are excited about his progress too. The club’s official Twitter account posted a video of him turning an Inter Milan midfielder inside out and wrote the caption “Is the Frenkie turn a thing yet? Asking for a friend”. Supporters flocked to the replies to express how impressed they’ve been with him so far.
