Barcelona’s forthcoming El Clasico encounter against Real Madrid could be rescheduled to December, amid recent unrest in Catalonia.
BBC Sport reports that La Liga have asked for the tie, which is due to be played at the Nou Camp on 26 October, to be switched to Real Madrid’s Bernabeu Stadium, while reports from Cadena Ser (via AS) claim that the match could be postponed altogether and played in December instead.
There have been days of protest in Barcelona after nine Catalan separatist leaders were jailed on Monday. La Liga have reportedly made the request to the Spanish Football Federation, with both clubs due to be asked their opinion on the matter.
BBC Sport says that Barcelona are expected to reject this request, however, as they feel a change in location is unnecessary.
There are due to be further protests in the city on the day of the proposed encounter, and La Liga said the request comes due to “exceptional circumstances beyond our control”, per BBC Sport.
