Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has bruised his foot whilst away on international duty with France, with the club’s official website claiming that his “return will be dictated by his recovery”.
The 25-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent seasons and faces another spell on the sidelines courtesy of this untimely knock.
Umtiti is yet to make an appearance for the Catalans this term due to falling behind Clément Lenglet in the pecking order at the Camp Nou, and will likely now be unavailable for Barca’s match against Valencia this Saturday.
This will be the Frenchman’s seventh injury since he became a Barcelona player in 2016. Umtiti has missed a total of 48 games for the La Liga champions so far, per Transfermarkt, with that number now set to increase due to his latest set-back.
Barcelona’s official Twitter account revealed the news on Monday evening, and fans of the club were quick to let their thoughts on the subject matter known. One fan even called him the new Gareth Bale, which isn’t exactly a good thing as the Welshman was dubbed as ‘Mr Glass’ after suffering his 22nd Real Madrid injury back in January of this year (as per AS, via The Sun).
Again?!! Is he the new Bale?
