Today marks the fifth anniversary of Luis Suarez’s debut for Barcelona.
The South American marksman joined the club from Liverpool in 2014, and has since gone onto score 184 goals and provide 97 assists for the Catalan giants, per Transfermarkt.
Suarez is deemed to be one of the best strikers of his generation, with his spell at Anfield kickstarting his career at the very top level; a career that he has since gone onto improve at the Camp Nou.
Now 32, there is no doubting that the Uruguayan’s career is nearing its end. That is not to say that he will be retiring anytime soon, though with his current contract with the Blaugrana set to expire in 2021, it looks more than probable that he will depart the Spanish champions in two years’ time and perhaps embark on a fresh challenge elsewhere, perhaps even earlier.
There have been rumours that Suarez will be David Beckham’s first marquee signing for his brand new Major League Soccer franchise, Inter Miami, next year, and should that happen, there is no doubting how much the ex-Ajax man would tear it up in the much less demanding American top flight.
Barcelona fans would be over the moon with Suarez departing, too, with a large selection of them believing that his time in Catalonia is now coming to an end – especially considering he has failed to score an away goal in European competition in the last four years…
Not that hard to choose one since he hasn’t scored an away since 4 years
