Barcelona have confirmed that Samuel Umtiti and Junior Firpo have both been declared fit for the club’s trip to Eibar on Saturday afternoon (via @FCBarcelona).
Firpo missed the Catalans’ 4-0 win over Sevilla prior to the international break with a muscle injury. The Brazilian full-back has made four league appearances for Barca this term, scoring against Getafe at the end of September.
Umtiti could lineup alongside Clement Lenglet in the heart of the Blaugrana’s defence considering Gerard Pique is missing through suspension, though he does face stiff competition from 19-year-old Jean-Clair Todibo, who started against Sevilla before the international break and performed well by keeping a clean sheet.
Barcelona currently sit second in La Liga after eight games – just two points behind Real Madrid heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures – and could leapfrog Los Blancos with a win against Eibar, providing Zinedine Zidane’s men lose to RCD Mallorca on Saturday night.
Having these two back in action will serve as a boost to manager Ernesto Valverde, who will be pleased to see Umtiti available for selection after six weeks on the sidelines.
Although it remains to be seen whether or not the France international will be handed a start after so long out, it is promising that he’s finally managed to recover from his latest setback.
Junior Firpo was beginning to make progress before his injury, scoring his first goal for the club against Getafe, so he’ll be hoping to pick up exactly where he left off against Eibar if he is handed a start by Valverde.
