Ousmane Dembele will miss Barcelona’s El Clasico clash against Real Madrid at the end of October, after being sent off for dissent during the Catalans’ 4-0 win against Sevilla last weekend.
The France forward told the referee that he was “very bad” following Ronald Araujo’s red card, and has been handed a two-game suspension because of it, per the Mail.
Captain Lionel Messi tried to prevent Dembele from receiving the red card by insisting to the referee that the 22-year-old wide man cannot speak Spanish very well, but his efforts fell on deaf ears.
Dembele will now miss the Blaugrana’s upcoming league matches against Eibar and Real Madrid, which could see 16-year-old Ansu Fati recalled into the first team for the first time since September.
The young winger was handed an unexpected debut for the Catalans amid an injury crisis at the beginning of the campaign, and impressed for the La Liga champions by scoring two goals and assisting once, per Transfermarkt.
Barcelona fans on Twitter have now been quick to call for Fati’s reintroduction; here’s what some had to say after the news of Dembele’s suspension broke:

Very stupid loss

Too rigorous a punishment but a learning experience for Dembele. Imagine Griezmann will take his spot on wing although he seems out of place.
