Unsung Hero: Arthur put in a solid shift for Barcelona as the Catalans come from behind to beat Inter - Barcelona

It was very nearly an evening to forget for Barcelona last night, as they found themselves a goal down inside the first two minutes against Inter Milan in the Champions League.

A Luis Suarez brace in the second half was enough to overturn the deficit, however, meaning Barcelona now keep the pressure on group leaders Borussia Dortmund, who sit ahead of them on goal difference.

Lionel Messi has been injured for most of this new campaign but played 90 minutes last night and was arguably the best player on the pitch. The Argentine looked back to his usual self, creating chances and causing Inter problems in the final-third.

It was Messi’s superb work which set up Suarez’s 84th minute match-winner, cutting open the Italians with a trademark mazy run from just inside the half to tee up the Uruguayan, whose phenomenal first touch took him away from two defenders and left him with a clear shot at goal.

WhoScored rated Messi and Suarez 9.45/10 and 8.69/10 respectively for their performances last night, though it was another player’s contribution which was also quietly impressive.

Central midfielder Arthur was awarded an overall rating of 7.20/10 by WhoScored after registering four successful dribbles, one tackle, one interception and four accurate long balls against Antonio Conte’s men last night.

The Brazilian also registered a hugely impressive pass completion rate of 90.9%, demonstrating his composure in the midfield on a tough night for Barcelona at the Camp Nou. Arthur also made 110 passes against Inter – 23 more than full-back Nelson Semedo, who made the second-most with 87 (via WhoScored).

Barcelona may not have been convincing last night, but with three wins in their last three matches, they are slowly starting to find some form. Should players like Arthur keep performing to this level, Suarez keep scoring and Messi remain fit, the Blaugrana should now start to kick on in both La Liga and Europe.

Barcelona fans, what did you make of Arthur’s performance last night? Let us know in the comments!
