Barcelona were far from convincing in their win over Slavia Prague, as they scraped through with a final scoreline of 2-1.
Many of the players have been criticised for their performance, despite getting the three points, as it is not deemed good enough that they required an own goal to secure victory against their Czech opposition.
However, one of the men who can be exempt from this criticism is Nelson Semedo, who put in a brilliant performance from right-back.
Semedo put in a solid defensive performance, making 6 successful tackles, 4 clearances and 4 interceptions, with his number of tackles and interceptions being the highest of any Barcelona player during that match, as per WhoScored.
The 25-year-old was also effective in possession, completing 2 dribbles, 1 key pass and 85% of the passes that he attempted throughout the game.
This performance saw the Portugal international get a WhoScored rating of 7.5, with Lionel Messi and Marc-Andre ter Stegen the only players to receive a higher number.
Semedo’s stature at Barcelona has grown since last season, in which he started 25 games and came on as a substitute for 11, while he has already started 10 this campaign.
The benefits of that consistent game time are certainly showing at the moment, with his performance against Slavia Prague being an example of how effective he can be for the team.
Was missing out on Neymar a blessing in disguise for Barcelona?
