There are gasps of disbelief in the Football Transfer Taver this afternoon after it was reported by the London Evening Standard that Chelsea striker Fernando Torres is the target of La Liga champions Barcelona for a shock summer transfer.
The Spanish striker, who signed for the Blues for a massive £50 million on January transfer deadline day in 2011, has been a massive disappointment at Stamford Bridge and he has been linked with a move away this summer.
However nobody in the tavern expected the Camp Nou side to show any interest in Torres who could be available for around £17 million as the Blues look set to end his nightmare spell in SW6.
New boss Jose Mourinho is keen to hold talks with the 29-year-old about his long-term future with the club once he returns from international duty with Spain.
But with Mourinho lining up a mammoth bid for Napoli ace Edinson Cavani as his replacement, Torres will have realised that his days at Stamford Bridge are numbered with a return to Spain proving attractive.
With only eight Premier League goals last term, Chelsea supporters could be saying good riddance to the striker who has never really shone with the club.
Will Barca really move for the misfit forward? Rate this rumour below.
