As the weekend wound down, a runner at MARCA informed the locals at The Transfer Tavern of a mass cull being planned at Real Madrid as four of the club’s Dutch internationals being linked, with a move away from the Bernabeu.
The Spanish media have reported this week that Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Rafael van der Vaart are all headed for the exit door at Los Blancos following the expected departure of fellow countryman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. The only Dutch player who has not been linked with a move away from the free-spending La Liga giants so far has been Royston Drenthe.
Despite this, manager Manuel Pellegrini is playing down the stories and insists that there are no more Dutch players leaving the club.
“When there is some news the club will announce it,” he told MARCA.
“But it’s not true that all the Dutch players are going to leave as has been reported in the media.“
So what sort of liquid sauce is at the source of this tale from Spain? Will there be a mass cull of the Dutch contingent in the Spanish capital? Should this rumour Fly or Die?
