Iturraspe could join Leeds in the summer

Leeds United fans will love the direction their side are heading in at this moment in time as Marcelo Bielsa continues to work wonders at Elland Road. Although, one slight worry has been injuries as a number of key first-team members have taken a hit in recent times.

Indeed, with Premier League football possibly in the offing it would make sense for Marcelo Bielsa to look towards the summer transfer window, with players at other clubs possibly weighing up their futures.

What’s the news?

It’s understood (as per AS, via Sport Witness) that Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Iturraspe could be on his way to Leeds.

Iturraspe is not in the big renovation plans the Bilbao club have, so he would be looking to leave on a free in June.

Indeed, a move abroad is seen as a way for the footballer to kickstart his career, with Leeds the named option.

Marcelo Bielsa worked with Iturraspe during his time at Athletic, so perhaps a reunion could be on the cards.

The Verdict:

Ander Iturraspe, who is valued at £2.7 million (by Transfermarkt), operates as a defensive midfielder and he’s been a key player over the years for the Spanish club, but he’s struggled to enjoy much time on the field this season due to injuries and team selection.

Kalvin Phillips currently operates at the heart of the midfield for the Whites, so it would be interesting to see how Bielsa integrates both players into his side if Iturraspe was to join.

Nevertheless, the Spaniard’s strengths are his passing, tackling and ability to intercept, so he could work perfectly sitting just in front of the defence. And, it’s safe to say that most of Marcelo Bielsa’s signings have gone on to impress at Elland Road, so fans could come to witness another star in the form of Iturraspe.

Leeds United fans, do you think another defensive midfielder is what you need?
