Neymar has made his record breaking move to PSG, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern simply cannot believe it…
The Brazilian is a player at the top of his game in one of Europe’s most highly-regarded leagues, so why would he choose to move to PSG?
Yes, the obvious answer is PSG are one of a very few clubs who could afford his huge buyout clause, but if Neymar’s ultimate ambition is to win the Ballon D’or then is going to play in the French league simply him taking the easy way out?
He’ll be the star and no doubt smash records in France – which will elevate his profile – and with the ageing Messi and Ronaldo, undoubtedly his time is just on the horizon.
However, as our landlord has mentioned, surely if you want to be held in that class of player you’d either want to beat the best or play with the best. Neymar has been reported to have wanted to move because he was under Messi’s shadow. If that’s the case, up your game – prove why you should be the worlds number one. Alternatively, if he desperately wanted to move, he should have moved to the toughest and best league in the world, the Premier League. There he could have proven without doubt that he is the best in the world.
The French league is much like the Spanish league. You’ll have a handful of tough matches against the teams fighting for the champions league places and the rest are upsets if you lose. In many ways, it’s a lose-lose situation.
In England, there’s never an easy game, week in, week out. Maybe England isn’t an exciting prospect for a move compared to mainland Europe, but football wise it’s by far the most challenging. Without that challenge, surely he is just taking the easy route?
