The agent of Juventus’ Christian Poulsen has admitted he is surprised at his client being linked with a move to Barcelona during the January transfer window. Barcelona based paper Sport reported that the Spanish giants have lined up the Danish midfielder as a replacement for African Nations Cup bound duo Seydou Keita and Yaya Toure and have also revealed the response from Poulsen’s camp to the interest.
29 year old Poulsen impressed for German side Schalke and Spanish side Sevilla before his 2008 move to Juventus and is already proven in La Liga from his impressive two years with Sevilla. Poulsen failed to really impress in his first season at Juve and was expected to leave the club back in the summer but fought for his place and has had a good season so far this year, proving his doubters wrong. This has been enough to warrant interest from Barca who see the strong defensive midfielder as an ideal signing.
Whilst flattered with the link to arguably the world’s best club side, Poulsen is reportedly reluctant to leave Juventus for a variety of reason including his being settled in Turin and his family loving the city. His agent revealed.
“I don’t know what will happen. Yes, Barcelona are a big club but there are other factors which make Christian want to stay with Juventus.”
Barca are ready to offer Juventus the chance to sign Uruguayan defender Martin Caceres on a permanent contract as a means of agreeing a deal for Poulsen. Juventus loaned Caceres back in the summer and he has impressed for them leading to the Italian giants being eager to secure a permanent deal for the big centre back. Barca may well use this to their advantage in courting Poulsen.
