Real Madrid: Fans react to new £190k-per-week Karim Benzema deal until 2022

Real Madrid are on the top of the table after last season’s disappointing third-place finish and Karim Benzema has been central to Los Blancos’ ascension to the summit. The 31-year-old has scored six goals in seven La Liga appearances this season and has been rewarded with a new £190k-a-week contract for his efforts.

The Frenchman is somewhat of a veteran at the club now, having signed from Lyon 10 years ago for £31.5m. Since then he’s scored 228 goals from 474 appearances in all competitions, and that’s some tally despite never being seen as Madrid’s main man, with Cristiano Ronaldo around for most of his time at the club.

A Twitter parody account of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, @RealFloPerez, posted the news first reported by Spanish TV channel El Chiringuito that a deal until 2022 had been signed, and fans were split on the decision. Some believe the contract was deserved and that he should be earning more, while others believe Madrid can do better than him in that position.

Some fans were delighted with the news:

While others believe it’s time for Benzema to make way for a better striker:

What are your thoughts on Real Madrid’s decision to extend Karim Benzema’s contract?
