Real Madrid returned to training on Thursday morning having beaten Leganes 5-0 on Wednesday night, though there were two notable absentees.
Neither Gareth Bale nor James Rodriguez trained outside with the main group, with the former working inside the facilities as he continues to recover from injury.
Bale missed the Leganes win after travelling to London for reported talks with his agent at the beginning of the week, but could well feature this weekend when Real Betis visit the Bernabeu.
Rodriguez also missed Wednesday’s victory due to flying to Colombia for the birth of his child (per Marca), but was expected to return to training on Friday.
The South American has seemingly fallen behind both Rodrygo Goes and Fede Valverde in the pecking order at the Bernabeu, so faces a challenge breaking back into Zinedine Zidane’s starting XI.
Rodriguez has started four of Madrid’s opening ten league games this season – scoring and assisting once – with his latest appearance for Los Blancos coming in the disappointing 1-0 defeat to Mallorca at the end of October (via Transfermarkt).
Having a player of Rodriguez’s quality back in the squad can only be viewed as a positive for Madrid, who desperately need to keep this winning form up if they’re to overtake Barcelona at the top of La Liga.
It is unlikely that the Colombian will feature from the off against Betis, but having the option to bring him off the bench will certainly be a huge boost for Los Blancos.
