Real Madrid: Los Blancos eye up Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante

Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante ahead of a potential move for the France international next summer, according to Sport (via The Sun).

The Daily Mail recently reported that Kante is being lined up for a reunion with previous Blues boss Maurizio Sarri at Juventus, though it is Real Madrid who are now thought to be keen on bringing the 28-year-old to Spain, after doubts regarding current holding midfielder Casemiro – who has committed the most fouls out of anyone in La Liga so far this term (16, 4 bookings).

Madrid currently lead the way in La Liga after eight matches but have been far from convincing on the pitch thus far.

On Saturday they found themselves 3-0 up heading into the final 30 minutes of their contest against Granada, but endured a nervy end after the visitors pulled two goals back late on.

James Rodriguez’s last minute finish secured a 4-2 win for Los Blancos, which sees Zinedine Zidane’s men remain above Barcelona at the top of the table by two points heading into the international break.

N’Golo Kante has made a name for himself as one of the Premier League’s most effective midfielders since arriving at Leicester City from Caen in 2015.

The Frenchman was a standout performer as the Foxes shocked the footballing world by winning the league title in 2015-16, and then moved to Chelsea where he won it again with his new side during his debut season in west London.

Signing a player of N’Golo Kante’s quality and versatility makes complete sense from Madrid’s perspective. At Chelsea he has proved that he is adept to playing in a more advanced role in central midfield, as well as his obvious quality as a holding linchpin in the middle of the park.

Casemiro is a liability – proven by his issues with discipline – and Luka Modric is now reaching the twilight stages of a glistening career and is being heavily linked with a move to Italy at the end of the campaign.

Snapping up the likeable 28-year-old would be viewed as extremely good business, and massively help out Los Blancos’ midfield.
